Rental Sales & Operations Manager

An exciting opportunity has come up to join TR Group as a Rental Sales and Operations Manager in our Mt Maunganui Branch.

Since 1992 we have come a long way from a one-man-band to the team of over 290 we are today across NZ and Australia.

You will be responsible for leading our Rental team in Mt Maunganui. We are looking for someone who can guide the operations through the growth and changes, maintaining a happy, effective team while helping to grow our rental network through trusted relationships with our customers. The rental operation can be busy, complex and heavily reliant on strong relationships – so it is vital that the person who takes on this role is understanding, quick on their feet and thinks of the bigger picture.

This position involves working with a wide variety of people, all of who relate to, and affect TR Group in different ways. It is important that you have the confidence and the ability to quickly assess people and situations, to win their respect and cooperation and to create positive outcomes that everyone is happy with.

This job will suit someone with industry experience who wishes to continue learning and pushing themselves as it carries a fair bit of responsibility.

The role is split between people leadership and sales/account management:

Leadership responsibilities:

  • People leadership - The role means leading a of 2 (a Yard & Rental Coordinator).  You will activity participate in reviews, feedback, and encourage the learning and growth of the team.
  • Branch culture - The branch is home to 10 people from different teams as well as travelling team members who visit often.  The overall branch culture is one you drive, encourage and actively participate in.
  • Continuous improvement - To take responsibility for your own personal growth and continue to be deliberate in upskilling yourself in order to be a leader in your field of expertise (self).  You also constantly review systems and processes to ensure a smooth and favourable customer experience (role)
  • The intuitive ability to understand the communication required for difficult or assertive conversations with both customers and suppliers alike and to make sure that the TR team are tending to these situations promptly and correctly.  Become involved directly, if required, to maintain good relations and resolve any disputes that may arise.
  • With leading comes doing - The hire of rental gear is part of this role, you will be mucking in and helping out with paperwork, outstanding requirements such as insurances/servicing/maintenance when needed. Although the physical work of the Yard/Rental Coordinator role is not done by you specifically, should the need arise, you arent afraid to get your hands dirty and pitch in.
  • Ability to understand the “bigger picture” thinking, balancing the sensitive nature of short-term decisions vs long term consequences relating to our customers, team or suppliers.
  • Your influence is felt and seen by others and is not limited to your immediate team or the Tauranga team – you take a vested interest in those around you and keeping up with what’s going on around the business.

Sales & Account management:

  • Relationship management - you will be responsible for maintaining existing relationships with customers in your region through regular visits and communication (This includes internal customers such as Lease and Driver Training)
  • Prospecting new customers - you have the ability and the drive to generate sales through cold calling, relationship development and management. This is also a key opportunity to guide and mentor the team in sales opportunities where you see fit and pass onto the sales lease team leads for potential lease business.
  • Working closely and collaborating with the other branch leaders regularly (forecasting seasonal fleet requirements, relocations, refurbishments/modifications as well as systems and processes)
  • To monitor the potentially damaging situations that arise with customers when equipment fails or is damaged requiring on-charges.  You are considered in your approach and dont shy away from the ‘tough’ conversations.

You tend to be the person who accompanies themselves with likeminded people – striving to outdo the expectations of your customers and do better tomorrow than you did yesterday.
