TR Group starts tyre pressure monitoring system in fleet

TR Group recently took delivery of our first quad axle, flat deck semi-trailer that’s fitted with a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). The TPMS is an innovative system that monitors and maintains the correct tyre pressure across all tyres on the trailer. With the tyres continuously running at their recommended pressure, it means that the tyre is performing at its optimum level.

Each tyre on the trailer is connected to a central control system which monitors each tyre's air pressure. The control system uses sensors that recognise if a tyre needs to be inflated or deflated to maintain the correct operating pressure.

A tyre which is underinflated by just 10% can lead to a 20% reduction in tyre life. Having correctly inflated tyres delivers higher mileage, lower fuel usage, better safety for drivers, and far greater opportunities to retread the tyre. The reduced wear rate results in a significant CO2 saving by reducing the number of tyres needing to be replaced when they are no longer roadworthy. In a typical application without TPMS, TR Group would be replacing ten tyres. But this will now be reduced to eight when using TPMS, which equates to a CO2 saving of 1,500kgs.
